ST. JOHN CEMETERY, MATCHEDASH, 3223 Upper Big Chute Road, Severn Township
In 1896, Joseph Sutherland Gill and his wife Catherine transferred 1.5 acres of land from the NE corner of their farm to the Anglican Diocese for the sum of $1. It is understood the church was erected shortly after that time. According to the date stone on the gate, the cemetery was opened in 1906. (Based on information from: Simcoe County Branch, Ontario Genealogical Society, 1985.)
On October 16, 2016 St. John Anglican Church closed. The wardens of St. George Anglican Church Fairvalley have assumed responsibility of the St. John cemetery while the St. John Cemetery Board continues its operation and maintenance. The Committee Chairperson for St. John Cemetery Board is Tom Taylor. Please contact us if you have any questions or need information about the cemetery. There is an annual (outdoor) cemetery service held in August. Details can be found at this link.
