Churchwardens of St. George Fairvalley
The Anglican Church uses an ancient and unique model to govern its churches. A local Diocese appoints a priest-in-charge to lead a church in all matters. The priest-in-charge is assisted by two Churchwardens when dealing with church administration items.
The Role of Churchwardens
The “Rector’s Warden” is appointed by the priest-in-charge. The “People’s Warden” is elected by the congregation. Each officer serves for a one-year term. Elected church officers are voted in during an annual vestry meeting.
Churchwarden roles involve a great deal of responsibility. For this reason, as a group, the Churchwardens and their deputies must address all administrative items. They also need to hold special vestry meetings with the congregation to address significant administrative matters. No individual Churchwarden may act alone on church administration matters.
